Orlando Solar FAQs
Yes, solar panels provide many benefits. They can increase your home’s resale price, lower your monthly electric bills and yearly taxes and reduce negative impacts on the environment. Florida is an ideal place for going solar, thanks to a 4% drop in solar prices over the past five years. The state also sees more than 300 sunny days per year and ranks 13th in the nation for solar installations: 93,000-plus installations statewide.
As of 2022, a Freedom Solar customer can expect to spend $38,000 on average for a 9.1- kilowatt (kW) residential system. This cost includes Maxeon (previously SunPower) solar panels, installation labor, permitting fees and homeowners association (HOA) inspections.
However, you can offset your final cost in several ways. Federal incentives and local rebates and incentives can help reduce the total amount you pay.
Florida doesn’t offer a solar tax credit. However, the federal solar investment tax credit (ITC) is available for anyone going solar.
People who install a solar photovoltaic (PV) system between 2022 and 2032 are eligible to receive a 30% tax credit. The ITC then decreases to 26% in 2033. By 2034, the ITC will drop to 22%. Additionally, the ITC will fall to 22% for people who bought a solar system when eligible for a 30% credit but never claimed it.
You can also take advantage of city-level solar incentives and rebates.
Yes, solar panels increase the resale value of your home. You can look forward to a return on investment (ROI) that’s much higher than most other types of home improvement projects.
What’s more, Florida provides the Residential Property Tax Abatement for Renewable Energy Property program. It allows homeowners to live more sustainably without paying additional tax costs. Your total purchase amount is fully tax-exempt for residential use and 80% tax-exempt for nonresidential use.
Yes, solar panel system owners in Florida can sell their excess power to the grid. Florida House Bill 741 would have stripped net metering from home and business owners starting in 2024. However, the bill failed to pass, and local net metering programs are still in place.
To fully cover residential electricity needs, the average American home needs an 8-kW solar system. An 8-kW Maxeon (previously SunPower) solar panel system via Freedom Solar has 24 solar panels, which will likely provide you with sufficient solar power.
Fortunately, Florida law provides property tax exemptions that prevent homeowners from paying additional taxes based on their home’s higher value. After you install solar panels, your home’s value will increase — but your property taxes will not.
Your Solar Installer In The City Beautiful
The sunshine state, and Orlando specifically, receives 233 days of sunshine a year which helps explain why Florida has seen a solar boom these past few years. Utility solar rebates can be combined with other local incentives and federal tax credits to make the switch to solar power systems accessible. These financial incentives, combined with increasing electric utility rates, make solar energy an investment decision that will continue to provide cost savings for years to come.

Home Battery Backup Systems
Backup power is a system that connects to electricity sources, typically solar panels and the electric grid, to store excess power and return it to your home when you need it, generally because of a power outage during an emergency. In most cases, your backup power supply will come from a generator or a battery. Today’s solar batteries are also intelligent energy management systems that can optimize your home’s energy usage to take advantage of utility time-of-use plans or to ensure that your electric car is charged with solar power.
