Installing SPAN Smart Panel
As an authorized installer for SPAN, Freedom Solar Panel has the knowledge and experience to upgrade your home’s panel and bring you into the future.
Installation takes between three to eight hours depending on the complexity of your home’s electrical set up as well as your desired outcomes – adding additional circuits, hooking up a back up battery, or connecting an EV charger.

About SPAN
SPAN was founded in the summer of 2018 by Arch Rao, a former Tesla Energy leader who saw the uptick in residential solar and saw the need for a smoother energy experience. He pinpointed the electrical panel as a major pain point for homeowners. Prior to SPAN, home electrical panels had not received major upgrades in decades. Out of this insight, SPAN Smart Panel was born.
Since their inception, SPAN has revolutionized the way home energy is managed and monitored in 47 states and Puerto Rico. They have also partnered with Tesla to integrate their controls with the output of the Tesla Powerwall.

How do I use SPAN?
With the SPAN Home App, you can easily monitor your home’s energy consumption, solar production, battery system, and EV charging. You can manually turn circuits on or off, whether you’re at home or away. Plus, you can automate which circuits take priority during off-grid operation, ensuring your battery power is used efficiently.
What can I expect during an outage with SPAN?
When a grid outage is detected, your storage system will switch your SPAN Panel to off-grid mode, and you’ll get a banner notification in your SPAN Home App about the outage. Circuits marked as “Must Have” and “Nice to Have” will receive power from the battery. Any circuits marked as ‘non-essential’ will turn off for the entire duration of the outage unless they are moved into the ‘nice to have’ or ‘must have’ priorities.
Once grid power is restored, your storage system notifies the SPAN Panel to go on-grid. Once on-grid, all “Non-essential” circuits and previously turned off “Nice to Have” circuits will automatically turn on. Subsequently, the red Power Outage banner in your Home App will disappear.
How much should you expect to pay if you are planning to upgrade to a SPAN panel?
It depends on your overall installation plan, including any other features that will be included in the system. At Freedom Solar we can create a personalized package that includes both SPAN and solar panel installation. Our team also offers simple financing solutions with $0-down plans if you want to minimize your out-of-pocket costs.
Additionally, SPAN and other solar power equipment qualify for the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC). This program allows you to get a 30% tax credit back when filing your taxes in the year of your installation.
