Notable Solar Projects of 2020
February 3, 2021
The sun has set on 2020, and it was quite the year! Despite the difficulties that arose, Freedom Solar had a year of record growth. We’re excited to take a look back and share a few of our favorite projects from a year that none of us will soon forget.
Before we get into the projects, we also want to recognize these Solar companies who are not only dominating the industry, but are thriving despite Coronavirus. We’re happy to be walking towards a greener, brighter future together.
This unique San Antonio system was definitely our most fun to design this year. Thanks to SunPower’s award-winning technology, we were able to design the 9.9 kW system to match the homeowner’s vision — his favorite childhood game. The install was outta this world!
TILLERY, A SUSTAINABLE WORKING SPACE
As sustainability in the workplace continues to trend, commercial solar installations are gaining popularity among developers with hopes of attracting the sustainability-conscious millennial workforce. This system located in Austin, Texas, contains 1,200 SunPower panels that not only complement the design of the building but also provide functional shade for the roof deck. This system will save the company $1.5 million over the course of 25 years.
A SOLAR OASIS
This 16.2 kW system located in Austin, Texas, provides 25-year savings of $91,585. The SunPower aesthetics were able to complement the home beautifully on their concrete tile roof. The system produces 25,087 kWh annually — that’s the same as charging 2,262,104 smartphones.
BANKING ON SOLAR
Financial institutions know the financial value of solar. In 2020, we installed solar on three of Frontier Bank’s central Texas locations. The combined projects have 136 kW of capacity from 416 SunPower solar panels. The system will offset more than 50% of energy usage and generate almost $400,000 in lifetime savings.
SOLAR BUILT TOUGH
More and more dealerships have been making the switch to solar. This installation at Bob Tomes Ford in McKinney was the first solar energy installation at an automotive dealership in the area. The system consists of 506 solar panels that will offset 26% of its energy usage, which is enough to power 24 homes for one year. The project is estimated to save Bob Tomes Ford more than $385,000 over the 25-year lifetime of the panels.
NOT YOUR AVERAGE INSTALL
This system in beautiful Rockwall, Texas, boasts retrofitted solar on a custom-built pergola. The pergola was designed specifically for the solar project and was able to fit the specific needs of the project thanks to the SunPower panels’ award-winning technology and aesthetics. The 8.8 kW system provides 100% offset and savings of over $50,000.
HILL COUNTRY VIEWS
This beautiful solar-powered home sits in Lakeway, Texas. The system was designed with 40 SunPower X-Series panels and produces 20,587 kWh per year while providing an average offset of 76%. Now that’s a view!
