Ryan Hunter joined the team as President of Freedom Solar LLC in the summer of 2019. He brings over 14 years of experience in leadership roles in the solar and geothermal industries in Texas, California and New York.
Previously, Ryan served as VP of Operations at Dandelion Energy, a geothermal startup in New York City that graduated the moonshot factory at Google [X], aiming to convert as many fossil fuel burning residential furnaces to clean, renewable geothermal heat pumps as possible. Prior to Dandelion, he was SVP of Installation Operations at Oakland-based Sungevity, the 4th largest residential solar company in the U.S., known for pioneering accurate, immediate, and online solar proposals. Before Sungevity, he spent 4 years running operations for SolarCity in Texas and California, a period when the company, already the largest residential solar contractor in the U.S., was doubling its installed volume year after year. And prior to SolarCity, he spent 5 years with Austin's own Meridian Solar, a tenure that began with the passing of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the bill that kickstarted the solar industry's growth era.
Ryan holds a BS from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
