In May 2015, Freedom Solar partnered with the Sustainable Food Center in Austin, Texas, to install a 15-kilowatt solar energy system that now supplies 25% of the organization’s total electricity needs. This investment in clean energy supports the Center’s broader mission: building a just and regenerative food system that strengthens local farms, improves access to nutritious food, and supports community health.
By reducing reliance on traditional energy sources, the solar array helps the Sustainable Food Center lower its carbon footprint and reallocate savings toward programming that directly benefits Central Texas families. The installation also serves as an educational tool—demonstrating how sustainability and food justice go hand in hand.
Freedom Solar is honored to support a nonprofit that’s growing more than just food—it’s cultivating resilience, equity, and environmental stewardship across Austin and beyond.
This project is a shining example of how small-scale solar can have a big impact when aligned with a mission-driven organization.
