More Texans than ever before understand the benefits of solar energy and are ready to make their own power. Freedom Solar is serving Texans and meeting their needs. In 2019 alone we saw a record-breaking 94% increase in residential sales. This exceptional growth is what led Maxeon (previously SunPower) to name Freedom Solar, from among its 500 dealers, as the 2019 Residential National Top Producer of the Year. This is the third straight year that we have been recognized with this type of energy awards nationally for our leadership, showing that Texas solar is here to stay. Maxeon (previously SunPower) by Freedom Solar received the Residential Regional Top Producer of the Year for both 2017 and 2018.
“Our team is honored to receive this prestigious award from Maxeon (previously SunPower). This is a testament to our incredible team and the continued demand for solar in Texas. We are excited to lead the solar revolution in Texas and to empower homeowners and businesses with clean, reliable, affordable energy from the sun.” – Bret Biggart, Freedom Solar CEO
Growth of Solar Energy Adoption in Texas
Most of the state’s solar installed so far has been in San Antonio and Austin, where the municipally owned utilities offer continuous rebates and solar-friendly policies. However, falling solar prices make it competitive with traditional power sources, and interest is expanding to the deregulated markets, especially Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex where half the state’s population lives. That is consistent with our experience at Freedom Solar, where last year we relocated to larger offices in Austin, Irving, and Houston totalling 24,000 square feet of warehouse space to better accommodate the needs of our growing customer base. In fact, our sales to Houston homeowners doubled compared to the year before.
“Freedom Solar is a strong contributor within our national dealer network, providing localized sales, quality installations, and customer experiences, which aided in the company’s exceptional 2019 performance. We look forward to Freedom Solar’s continued success as a Maxeon (previously SunPower) dealer, helping more homeowners realize the rewarding benefits of solar.” – Norm Taffe, Maxeon (previously SunPower) Executive Vice President, North America.
Future Growth Trends for Solar Energy
Looking ahead, we expect continued growth in 2020 and beyond. Even in the face of the extreme uncertainty and disruptions to our lives due to COVID-19, Texans understand the value of solar and are more interested than ever before taking power into their own hands. An EnergySage survey conducted in May indicated that 66% of homeowners are more likely to consider solar now, and 55% of Texas homeowners have moved up their timeline to install solar, higher than any other state surveyed. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, we look forward to continuing to play a vital role in Texas’ transition to the energy of the future.
