Let Freedom Ring

Let Freedom ring…
When we allow Freedom to ring – when we let it ring from every city and every Hamlet, from every state and every city we will be able to speed up that day when all of god’s children, Black Men and White Men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics
Will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual,

“Free at last, free at last, great God a-mighty, we are free at last!”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Here at Freedom Solar we fully recognize the systemic injustice that is prevalent in our society today. The senseless death of George Floyd, along with countless others, is yet another example of unrelenting racial inequality, and change is long overdue. We stand with the black community and all other marginalized groups that have been subjected to such injustice.

As stated in the Declaration of Independence, our country was founded on the truth that all men and women are created equally. These words, held to be self-evident, were echoed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in the summer of 1963, and fifty-seven years later, we still fall short.

Justice, Equality, and Freedom make up the base of our values, but belief is simply not enough. Actions speak louder than words, and as a company our mantra in all things is ACTION. That is why we have set up employee teams to help us translate our heartbreak into positive change. First, we’re taking a hard look in the mirror, and we’re listening. We are creating uncomfortable dialogue, raising the voices of our black and brown team members. Second, we are committed to improving diversity and representation, specifically of black and brown people, across all departments and levels. This will change our hiring process going forward, and we are evaluating educational programs that will provide more equal opportunity. Third, we are looking for ways to engage and lift up under-represented communities, both as a company and as employees.

These programs will take shape as we identify potential opportunities, and we invite you to participate if you are interested. This movement is about all of us.

We don’t have all the answers yet, but we are not going to sit this out. We owe it to you – our team, customers, neighbors, friends, and communities – to do better, be better, and create the change we want to see.

Ecology Action: Circle Acres

Circle Acres is a 10-acre nature preserve in southeast Austin. As a former landfill, this site has suffered through a pattern of destructive uses, but surprisingly the landscape now consists of forest, wetland and grassland environments in an urban context. Ecology Action has a goal to protect this natural urban amenity, by creating a haven for wildlife and human visitors. They are doing this by redefining ‘waste’ and re-envisioning this underutilized resource as an educational and recreational destination. The Center for Sustainable Futures is the programming framework for Ecology Action’s educational, advocacy, and research activities at Circle Acres. It includes classrooms, demonstration areas, operations & maintenance support, art, and social spaces.

Freedom Solar Power will be partnering with Circle Acres to install an off-grid solar project to support the classroom for student programs, camps, and education.

Green Careers Dallas

As a local company Freedom Solar is committed to our community. From keeping Texas beautiful with cleaner air to employing our fellow Texans from all walks of life – especially those looking for a second chance. As part of this commitment, Freedom is proud to partner with Green Careers Dallas. Green Careers Dallas is a non-profit organization disrupting poverty in South Dallas through green career training, solar workforce development, and community education.

Through this partnership, we will be able to further our goals of lifting up those in the community through employment and spreading solar education and training in Texas. The values of Green Careers Dallas and their commitment to the community inspire us and we’re proud to support them on these initiatives.

We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have.
