Check out Austin’s Largest Solar Array

Freedom Solar Power plans to debut a massive, 2,500-panel commercial solar installation this Saturday at Strictly Pediatrics Surgery Center in North Central Austin.

The Austin-based solar panel installation company claims it is the city’s largest array. It plans to celebrate the project with a public event from 9-11 a.m. at the Seton Healthcare Family clinic at 1301 Barbara Jordan Blvd., on the top floor of the parking garage, near the Mueller mixed-use development.

Freedom Solar Power’s 812-kilowatt system will meet 50 percent of the clinic’s energy needs and generate more than 1.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

Over the life of the system, the solar array will offset 21,466 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents. This is comparable to 6,812 tons of waste being recycled instead of going to the landfill, or 171 acres of U.S. forest being preserved instead of converted into cropland.

Freedom Solar Power, founded in 2007, is also a big player in the residential solar panel installation market.
