Finding self-sufficiency through solar

Fly fisherman, musician, and business owner Alvin Dedeaux loves being out on the water and in nature. The self-sufficiency of being able to catch and cook his own dinner is a source of fulfillment for him, which is why producing his own electricity using solar panels felt like a perfect fit for his family home. He and his wife thought about going solar for a long time before choosing Freedom Solar Power.

“Solar panels are just one good way that you can every day do something to help the environment by using just a little less energy from the grid and making your carbon footprint smaller,” said Alvin.

But, the #1 benefit of solar will be the energy cost savings. His local utility is raising rates by 5% just this year, and the cost of running A/C is one of the major monthly expenses for him, so “not having to be subject to that will be a major benefit,” said Alvin.

His family has always conserved where they could both for their pocketbook and also for the greater good of the electric grid. When the city called for energy conservation due to grid challenges, the first thing his family did was stop using the clothes dryer because it uses a lot of energy. They dried all of their clothes on drying racks in the garage. Alvin says now, with solar power, he is “looking forward to putting towels back in the dryer and having fluffy warm towels!”
