Celebrate Summer from Home
June 16, 2020
This Summer is proving to be unlike anything we’ve experienced before. As we all try to adjust to the changing times we’re having to discover and create new ways to keep ourselves entertained from the comfort of our own homes. To help you out we’ve come up with some fun ideas to help pass the sunny summer days.
June
June 20th is Summer Solstice which means the first and longest day of summer. What better way to celebrate the summer sun than:
- Build a bonfire
Bonfires are a key part of how many cultures celebrate Summer Solstice, so break out your fire pit or hey – light up the grill, this is Texas after all.
- Go outside!
Head to the back yard, take a deep breath, and take a moment to enjoy nature! If you’re up for it head to one of Texas’ many outdoor spots for a hike or even a quick swim!
What better way to honor the sun than relaxing your body and mind with a sun salutation?
July
July is the perfect time to be patriotic and take the month to celebrate all things American!
- Make your own Fireworks show!
Head to the store and grab some sparklers and glowsticks, and make your own light show!
- Celebrate America by going on a cross country trip – virtually!
Take a virtual trip across America by doing virtual tours of some of the USA’s most famous landmarks. Visit NASA, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and the Statue of Liberty.
- Make an American flag cake!
This fun and delicious cake will steal the show this 4th of July! You can even get creative with what red, white, and blue toppings you choose!
August
Just when you start to think Texas summer can’t get any hotter, the dog days of summer come around. Here are some fun ideas to keep you and the family entertained while staying cool!
- Indoor Summer Olympics
The actual Olympics may have been postponed but that doesn’t mean the show can’t go on. With events like paper airplane throwing, arm wrestling, and the long jump, you can turn your living room into an Olympic arena.
- Make Sun Tea
Refresh yourself with the perfect Summer drink made with 100% sun power!
- Celebrate National Fajita Day
In Texas, Fajitas are such a staple that they have their own place on the food pyramid and while every day is a good day to eat fajitas, August 18 is national fajita day!
We hope these ideas can help you enjoy your Summer! Until next time stay cool and have some fun in the sun!
